Lewis finally has the little boy’s digger bedroom that he wanted! You may recall that he wanted a bedroom with a digger or farm theme and walls brighter than the sun. Although I planned something different, and a little calmer, Lewis is pleased with the result, and so am I.
So here it is!
I was quite shocked at how difficult it was to find digger themed bedding that was suitable for a young boy, yet would last a few years. After much searching l found Asda had introduced a new range which has a matching duvet cover, pillow cases, sheets, curtains and pillows.
Sadly the curtains only come in one size, which were too small for the window, however I found some blackout curtains in Dunelm which toned in beautifully.
I had planned to paint the room in a warm lemon colour, but actually, it was impossible to match to the yellow in the bedclothes. Different shades of yellow actually clash considerably! Thus it was with some trepidation I bought B&Q Colours Lemon Fizz yellow paint. Such a strong colour would have been too overpowering for the entire room so I decided to make a feature wall, and I picked the wall with the window to further break up the colour, and painted the opposite wardrobe doors as well.
The other walls I painted with Dulux First Dawn paint to help draw out the blue in the bedsheets.
As I have said from the start, this is not my ideal little boys bedroom. However, the room is not for me, and Lewis is more than happy so that is what counts.
I do need to accessorise the room. I have already made a start on a reading area, which I need to fill with all Lewis books.
Shelving will also be erected to show off some of his favourite toys. I am having some difficulty finding a bedside lamp, but I shall keep looking. For now, Lewis has a space to call his own, which he helped design. My little boy is definitely growing up!
