Keeping the Kids Clothes Clean: Vanish Review and Competition

Vanish Review

One of my least favourite chores is the laundry. It is my ground-hog day. Wash, dry, iron, put away. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Actually… stop. That item is for the bin. I know it was only bought last week, but look at the stains on that! It is definitely only fit for the bin… I’m only kidding… we don’t throw out stained clothes, we wear them in the house and just hope no-one comes to visit!

So when I was asked if I would carry out a Vanish review I agreed. I was sent some products to test, and within about 12 hours, my kids had provided me with sufficient material to put the products to the test. Actually, it’s not just the kids. It’s the whole family.

Let’s start with my youngest. At 2 years old Aaron is doing well, but he is still likely to have a much of his dinner on his clothes as in his tummy. Many of his bibs are stained. Here is a classic tomato sauce example. The results from the vanish review are quite good, although there is some residual staining.

My oldest son Lewis, 5, however, has some kind of fascination with mud.  I cannot let that child out to play without him coming back looking like he has been burrowing underground. I believe little boys should be allowed outside to play in the mud, but does he have to get so dirty all the time! This one is a bug bear! I just added 1 scoop of Vanish Gold Oxi Action Powder into my normal wash and they came out just fine!

And then there is Mr C. My dear hubby heads out to work every day to provide for his family. If only he would slow down for a second and wait for his deodorant to dry, perhaps the armpits of his shirts would not get so stained. I put Vanish to the test on his shirts and the t-shirts he refuses to part with, even if they are a million years old.

This test was hard to photograph, and I couldn’t quite get the results to show in my pictures. I tried removing sweat stains on both white and coloured clothes using the following method:

  1. Steep clothes as directed in Vanish Gold Oxi Action Powder. 1 hour for colours. 6 hours for whites.
  2. Treat the stains with Vanish Gold Powergel for 5 minutes
  3. Wash with 1 scoop of Vanish Gold Oxi Action Powder with my normal detergent.

The results of this did impress me. The whites came up great, the shirts are like new. The colours were not as good, but in fairness Mr C has been accumulating these stains for quite some time. I’m thinking regular treatment might make a real difference to this problem.

If you want help or advice on tackling a specific stain then check out the Vanish stain removal guide.

I like the fact that Vanish give lots of advice on which of their products are best to use on which stains. If I have a complaint, it is that there is too much choice. If I was standing in the aisle of the supermarket in front of the whole Vanish range, I would be overwhelmed. I just want one product that will cover most eventualities. For me, I think that is going to be the Vanish Gold Oxi Action Powder.

Overall, I am impressed by the results of my tests. And you can enter my competition for a chance to win some products for yourself. I have a bundle containing Vanish Gold Powergel and Vanish Gold Oxi Action Powder to give away. Just enter the rafflecopter below, and good luck!
