Family Holiday Summer 2018 {Portrush and Portstewart}

This summer is absolutely galloping along. I can’t believe there are only two weeks left of the school holidays! We have now returned from our final camping trip of the season where we headed back to Carrick Dhu Campsite. I really like it there. Great location and spotless facilities.

So many people say camping is their worst nightmare. Certainly, given the choice I’d rather have a 4* hotel and butler to hand. But you know, I do believe this is better for the kids. And they love it! They meet new friends, they get dirty and they learn to live without a t.v.! (Although us adults sneak a wee dvd night in after the kids go to bed… shhh!)

Aaron celebrated his 4th Birthday while we were away. His treat was a a trip to Waterworld. A pool with slides and a pirate ship, located down at Portrush harbour. It is only open seasonally, and I haven’t been for about 20 years. It was great though. The kids laughed so much and I was literally screaming coming down the huge water slides.

We made the most of the blue skies and enjoyed walks and rock climbing along the seashore.

Although we cooked on the campsite we also treated ourselves to  a few meals out, because you know, it’s my holiday too!

Coffee and pancakes at Panky Doo’s in Portrush.

The Tides Restaurant, which I love. The food is great, the prices are very reasonable and the view doesn’t get much better than they have!

And we tried the New York Hotel in Portstewart as well. I thought it was quite similar to Tides, and I would definitely go back!

The kids menu at the New York was also pretty impressive, even offering up steak. And the desserts were so big I thought they had brought adult portions by accident! It’s a pretty huge slice of chocolate fudge cake when my wee boy can’t finish it!

Now we are home, and I type this as the washing machine runs on overtime. My least favourite part of holidays is of course unpacking and the return to normality. But return we must! Thankfully I have a few more days off work, and perhaps we will fit in a few more day trips before the seasons change again.

I hope you have had a good summer too?
