During our stay on the North Coast in April, we saw an advertisement for Damhead Railway. This attraction is only open on certain days throughout the year, and having never been before I thought my two boys would enjoy it.
Damhead railway is a miniature railway featuring steam and diesel engines. On the days that it opens to the public, you can go along and enjoy a 5 minute ride on a miniature train. The train travels through the gardens, and purpose built bridge, before returning to Turnakibbock Halt where it started.
Before going we weren’t sure if it was model trains, or if adults were able to have turn, or exactly what a miniature railways was! For anyone else who is as un-knowledgeable about trains as us, here is a little video I took on the day!
There is a little shop selling nik-naks and sweeties, and bathroom facilities available. They also have picnic tables, and apparently there is an indoor eating area for rainy day picnics! We were lucky to have beautiful weather, and it was lovely to sit outside and enjoy our sandwiches while the trains went past!
Of course my boys all had to have a go on the train. I’m not exactly sure who was the most excited!
It really was a great wee day out!
