Do you want some ideas for really cool things to do with the kids this summer? Do you live in Northern Ireland? Are you stuck for ideas for days out or places to go with the family? Get ready to be inspired!

Go To A Family Friendly Festival!

Dalriada Festival bagpipes

18th – 25th July  – Dalriada Festival – Glenarm – A celebration of Scottish and Irish culture. Live music, local produce, Irish dancing, Highland games, and a sheep fashion show, all feature over the course of this event. Find out what I thought when I visited last year.

19th – 26th July – Fiddler’s Green International Festival – Rostrevor – 7 nights of music, culture and criac, this event has something for everyone, including children’s entertainment!

31st July – 2nd August – Sunflowerfest – Hillsborough – As well as live music, an art and craft village, a bliss body and soul area, they also have a dedicated kidzone.  Personally, the name of this festival alone makes me want to go, and the fact that they have gained a Guinness World record for the largest laughter yoga class!?

7th – 8th August – Stendhal Festival of Art – Limivady – Music, theatre, food and drinks, arts, poetry, sculpture, family tent, and children’s area! The list goes on, but it is no surprise that this festival is award winning in the family friendly festival category!

Visit A Fun Filled Swimming Pool!

Waterworld –  Portrush – Waterslides, cannons, a pirate ship, and a jacuzzi for the adults. A great choice for a rainy day on the North Coast.

Lagan Valley LeisurePlex – Lisburn – Aqualand and Lazy River family sessions look absolutely amazing for children. This is definitely on my to do list, but remember they do advise advanced bookings!

Bangor Aurora – Bangor – Waves and a flume in the fun pool. A bouncy castle suspended in water, and Northern Ireland’s only Sidewinder. This pool is something special!

Take A Day Trip on a Ferry!

P&O Day Trips – M&D’s theme park, shopping trips and Blairdrummond safari park feature on P&O’s list this summer. I thoroughly recommend Blairdrummond! You can read about my visit here.

day trip to Scotland

Stena Line Day Trips  – Themed cruises, M&D’s theme park, and agricultural shows are available on day trip passes. Or, take your kids shopping or on a cultural visit to one of Britain’s mainland towns or cities!

Go to the Jungle!

Jungle NI – Magherafelt –  If you you like outdoor adventure, this place claims to have it all! I thought my boys were too young, but their website claims all ages and abilities are welcome! I like the look of the family fun days, where you can go along and then decide what you want to try! They have everything from face-painting to tree-top adventures! Zorbing, paintballing, and so much more besides!

Go camping, but more glamourously!

Go Glamping – Various Locations – Kids love to camp, but us adults are sometimes concerned about the lack of home comforts! Find a happy medium and go on a glamping trip! From tents with heating and flushable toilets, to gypsy caravans and converted barns! Glamping really does offer up a unique accommodation experience! And what better adventure than to then spend a few days exploring the great outdoors!
