If you a regular reader, you probably know that last year we spend a lot of time renovating and extending our wee home. This included converting the garage into a master bedroom. Structurally, the room was finished and we moved our bed out of the living room, just in time to put up the Christmas tree. Since then, pretty much nothing has happened. (I think I hibernate in the winter months!)
When I started on this home renovation project, I thought it would be fun. I thought it would be easy to make the right decisions and I was confident that I knew exactly what I wanted. The truth is, once I got my bedroom finished structurally, I was a little bit lost about what to do next. I spent great deal of time scouring the internet for bedroom ideas. In the end I decided that country style really is for me. It is timeless.
A room which has gentle pastel colours really feels like a place where I can relax. I sometimes make myself a cup of tea and sit on my rocking chair, reading my kindle. If I’m lucky, sometimes 5 whole minutes can pass before the kids realise I’ve disappeared and come looking for me.
We only just added the wallpaper this past weekend, and it makes a huge difference. Adding a little bit of texture and interest really helped to pull the room together, and warm the feel of it.
The room is still along way off being finished. I plan to put up some shelving above the chest of drawers. I think adding some personal photographs and knick knacks is another great way to add interest and a homely feel.
I am probably also going to look out for some new bed clothes. The ones I am currently using are actually earmarked for our spare room, and a size too small for our bed. I’m not going to rush out and buy something just for the sake of it though. I really want to make sure that the choices I make last the test of time.
I do hope it won’t be an awfully long time before I can come back to you with the complete finished room. And if anyone wants to share their country style bedrooms I’d love to see them.
